⚠️ Verify before applying. The electric vehicle grant scheme is renewed in annual rounds with different amounts, categories and deadlines. Always confirm the current round on the Ministry of Transport page before signing any order.
How the scheme works (general)
The Electric Vehicle Subsidy Scheme is the Republic of Cyprus's main EV incentive for passenger vehicles. It's administered by the Ministry of Transport, Communications & Works in coordination with the Ministry of Energy.
Typical categories (usually subsidised):
New battery-electric vehicles (BEVs)
Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) — lower grant
Commercial / social vehicles (differentiated amounts)
Old-vehicle scrappage (usually an additional bonus)
Typical amounts (historical ranges — verify the 2026 round):
Private BEV: €9,000–€19,000 (depending on category and scrappage)
PHEV: €4,000–€6,000
Taxi / public transport: enhanced grant
Application process (general flow)
Confirm funds availability on the official page — each round has a capped budget.
Choose a vehicle within the technical specs (max retail price, minimum WLTP range).
Online application via the ministry's portal.
Approval before order — do not order before approval, or you forfeit the grant.
Vehicle delivery within the timeframe set by the approval.
Disbursement after registration and confirmation of supporting documents.
Common mistakes
Signing the purchase order before grant approval
Choosing a model with retail price above the cap
Wrong category (private applicant for what's actually a commercial vehicle)
Stacking with the home charger grant
In parallel with the vehicle scheme, a separate grant for installing a home AC charger (Wallbox 7.4–22 kW) is usually available, administered via the RES Fund. Full deep-dive: Home EV charging in Cyprus — buyer's guide.
